Hilton Head, South Carolina Education

Hilton Head Island schools have designed and implemented a public-private partnership approach to public education. Parents, teachers, school administrators and students join forces to elevate and enhance the learning process.

In addition to each school's respective parent-teacher organization, every school sponsors an individual School Improvement Council. Together with the Island School Council which helps support the arts in the public schools, these parent-driven organizations raise money for Hilton Head, South Carolina education and community awareness to augment scholastic innovations, instructional strategies, resources, facilities and overall learning conditions.

• Public Schools

Hilton Head Island is within the Beaufort County School District, which is among the 500 largest school districts in the nation. The district has a student population of approximately 18,000 from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, enrolled at 17 elementary schools, five middle schools and four high schools.

• Child Care and Preschool Facilities

Child care and pre-school facilities are also primary among Hilton Head, South Carolina's educational priorities. Most private programs, such as Montessori and church-affiliated pre-schools, operate Monday through Friday during business hours.

• Private Academic Elementary & Secondary Schools

Two Hilton Head schools are private academies that also educate children from grades 1-12. Hilton Head Preparatory School on the south end of the Island and Hilton Head Christian Academy on the north end of the Island has experienced strong growth every year. St. Francis Catholic School educates students from K-8 grade, the Heritage Academy accepts student ages 11 through 19 and Sea Pines Montessori Academy educates student from 18 months through sixth grade.

• Baccalaureate & Technical Colleges

The Technical College of the Low Country
Hilton Head, South Carolina educational opportunities include the Technical College of the Low Country (TCL) which offers programs in some of the Low Country's and the nation's fastest growing career fields. It offers a variety of educational options, including associate degree programs in technical and business areas, diploma programs and professional certificates.

The College also offers transfer block programs and awards Associate in Arts or Science degrees, which may be transferred in full to any four-year public college or university in South Carolina and to many out of state.

The University of South Carolina-Beaufort
Serving approximately 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students is the University of South Carolina-Beaufort. The University of South Carolina-Beaufort's New River campus is South Carolina's newest accredited four-year university.

Located on Highway 278 near Sun City, the university offers six baccalaureate degrees and two associate degrees.
