Discover Bluffton – A Growing Community True To Its Roots

Bluffton is a friendly community known for its historic charm and relaxed Low Country lifestyle.

Ancient oak trees draped with Spanish moss line the quaint streets of historic Bluffton. Many of the town’s 19th-century homes have been transformed into cafes, galleries and antique shops where regulars greet old friends and welcome newcomers with infectious Southern hospitality. Located on the May River, you’ll catch glimpses of the beautiful marsh and hints of refreshing breezes as you stroll the sidewalks and explore the heart of Bluffton.

The historic district of Old Town Bluffton incorporated in 1852 is merely the introduction to this vibrant community. The town continues to expand and today Bluffton is home to some of the area’s best shopping, both casual and fine dining, bustling businesses and numerous neighborhoods and developments with golf courses and community centers.

Bluffton's Old Town—The Past is Always Present

A rich and diverse history colors the contemporary yet still quiet streets of Bluffton’s Old Town. Originally a dwelling place for the Yemassee Native Americans, early 19th-century landowners chose the high bluffs and cool May River breezes as a summer respite and haven from the heat, isolation and infectious mosquitoes of the plantations.

Bluffton was the first official town in southern Beaufort County, incorporated in 1852. Today, stroll the shady streets and wander into an eclectic array of antique shops, art galleries and working studios. Or linger for awhile at one of the charming cafes and enjoy a homemade sandwich or the day’s freshest catch. The energetic community also offers an unending variety of festivals, historical and cultural events where visitors mingle with friendly locals and neighbors.
